INTRODUCTION

At Devon EMS we beleive that
young people are a very important resource
and are in the process of introducing our
Young Persons Development Programme.

It is our aim to introduce the programme
into schools, youth clubs etc  within the
South Devon Area via our
3hr Young Responders Course,
which teaches
essential first aid skills
to the 14yr plus group.

The programme is to be divided into
two  integrated phases.
AIMS

The Young Persons Development Programme is what the name suggests, it is not a youth group or youth organisation
attached to Devon EMS.

It is a structured  programme for
young people with an interest in first aid related activities  or a career in healthcare.

You will not only learn clinical skills but also develop your inter-personal and communication skills and learn how
to become an effective team player.

INTEGRATED PHASES

Is the educational phase the starting point being our Young Responders Course  which young people can take at the from the  age of 14yrs

Phase 1b -

in addition to learning first aid the individual will have the opportunity to learn radio communication skills,
and attend duties as an observer, however may undertake non-clinical activities.

Phase 2 - Vocational Phase

At the age of 17yrs the young person may move onto the 2nd phase, it is during this period that the
Emergency First Aid Course or First Aid at Work Course may be undertaken [the later may require funding].

Within this phase the young person will become a uniformed Devon EMS member, undertaking operational duties
under the supervision of their mentor.
