Community Training Programme
Training Members Of Your Community In Emergency Life Support
Our Lifestyles Roadshow aims to reduce the incidence of
Coronary Heart Disease by targeting the risk factors,
however people will still suffer Heart Attacks and Cardiac Arrest secondary to Heart Attacks.
It is important that within any community there are individuals trained in the knowledge and skills to manage a
Heart Attack or Cardiac Arrest until the arrival of an
Emergency Ambulance.

Our  3hr Emergency Life Support [ELS] Course
which is taught by Devon - First Aid Training Services
teaches these skills, and is provided free of charge in
South Devon as part of our Community Training Programme.
MEET BRAD OUR
RESUSCITATION
TRAINING MANIKEN
By completing our
Emergency Life Support Course
you will be in a position to
secure the first two links:-

EARLY ACCESS - DIAL 999
EARLY CPR -
START RESUSCITATION TO
BUY TIME.
THE CHAIN OF SURVIVAL
In order to stand the best possible chance of surviving a Cardiac Arrest all four links
need to be secured

HOW TO FURTHER IMPROVE SURVIVAL RATES

In cases of Heart Attack and Cardiac Arrest time is of the essence, minutes literally can count, whilst it is important to have sufficient individuals trained in ELS,
their skills need to be accessed, a co-ordinated responce is required especially in rural areas, having completed the necessary training there is an argument for establishing a

Devon EMS - Community Responder Group.
In addition for those who wish to be further involved it may be relevant to discuss
with South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust the possibility of establishing a
Community First Responder Scheme with individuals trained in Automated Defibrillation
in order to secure the third link -
EARLY DEFIBRILLATION.

In all cases of suspected Heart Attack or Cardiac Arrest it is important to get
professional help "
DIAL 999 " as in the case of Heart Attacks it is often possible for
Registered Paramedics to administer " Clot Busting Drugs " and in the case of
Cardiac Arrest in particular
ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT [ALS] thus securing
the fourth link in the Chain of Survival
