INTRODUCTION It is our aim to develop a multi-skilled team of volunteers or freelance providers in order to deliver Event Medical Care of the highest standard which we can realistically acheive. We see the identification of various grades within the team as a means to providing clarity and a structure by which the individual may move forward via various developmental options, within the Practitioner Grade this will require the individual to be Professionally Registered or as a minimum to meet IHCD Standards The Responder Grade in general applies to the Lay Responder or Healthcare Professional who for one reason or another may not wish to be professionally involved within the practitioner grades. The entry level within the Responder Grades is that of Support Responder [+] the individual will be trained to Emergency First Aid [Appointed Persons] level and undertake an internal assessment of competence in core subjects. Individuals who wish to undertake training in Oxygen Administration, Resuscitation Adjuncts, and Automated Defribrillation will then be classed as First Responders. The function of both these roles are to support the qualified First Aid Provider In order to function as a First Aid Provider the individual must have a valid First Aid at Work [FAW] certificate, individuals with this qualification may further develop their skills by undertaking the extended competencies of the First Responder to become Advanced First Aid Providers. A further development within the team is that of the Emergency Medical Care Provider [+], the role of this individual is to support the First Aid Provider by offering a more indepth knowledge base and extended skills profile, also to function as a Support Person to the Professional Practitioner The individual will Emergency Medical Care Provider [+] D-EMS Emergency Care Course, to include selected elements of NVQ3 Care/APL [Members who are trained in cannulation and employed within an NHS Trust using these skills on a regular basis may undertake this intervention upon the direct instruction of Doctor acting as Event Medical Officer The title of EMT has not been included in this section owing to differences in standards, EMT's who meet the IHCD standard will be included in the Practitioner Grade, those who do not will be assimilated into the Emergency Care Assistant role, additional training may be required. PRACTITIONER GRADE It is a pre-requisite that to be included in this grade that members are either registered with the Health Professions Council, NMC, GMC, or have undertaken training to IHCD Standards Ambulance Technician/ IHCD Ambulance Technician/EMT Advanced Technician/EMT Emergency Nurse RN [Adult] plus Emergency Care Course/APL Ambulance Paramedic/ Community Paramedic State Registered Paramedic Emergency Nurse Practitioner Emergency Nurse Practitioner currently employed in that role Emergency Care Practitioner NHS ECP Emergency Doctor Medical Practitioner with experience in Emergency Medicine NOTES 1. Where D-EMS is stated external training and qualifications can normally be APL'd, however Devon EMS does reserve the right to carry out an internal assessment as part of its internal verification process. 2. When an individual has a healthcare qualification which is not listed above they will be assimilated into the most relevant grade which may necessatate additional training. 3. [+] In many cases we are using titles to denote an internal grade based on knowledge/skill level, such titles may be used by different organisations with a different set of competencies/standards attached, therefore such titles should not be interpreted to represent a nationally recognised qualification or standard. |
